The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 · Ch. XXXIII — PROVISIONS AS TO BAIL AND BONDS
When any person is required by any Court or officer to execute a bond with or without sureties, such Court or officer may, except in the case of a bond for good behaviour, permit him to deposit a sum of money or Government promissory notes to such amount as the Court or officer may fix in lieu of executing such bond.
Sections of the CRPC are not classified one by one by any First Schedule. Part II of the First Schedule to the CRPC classifies offences under every other law by the punishment they carry — and the BNSS’s First Schedule sets out the same three bands.
If punishable with death, imprisonment for life, or imprisonment for more than 7 years.
If punishable with imprisonment for 3 years and upwards but not more than 7 years.
If punishable with imprisonment for less than 3 years or with fine only.
